CAST INFORMATON

We are still looking to cast male performers.

The roles of:

• Abner Dillon
Abner Dillon, an automobile tycoon, is Dorothy Brock's wealthy patron and the main financial backer behind Pretty Lady. Abner is devoted to Dorothy, but he is not the sharpest tool in the shed. He is a powerful man accustomed to getting what he wants and won't take no for an answer.
No dance experience required.

• Pat Denning
Pat Denning is Dorothy's former vaudeville partner. Though he has kept their love secret for years, he is committed to Dorothy and willing to do anything in order to make their relationship work. He's kind, practical, and a bit of an "opposites attract" love interest for Dorothy. Pat doesn't sing or dance in the show, but he should be a good actor.
+

*Male Ensemble Dancers, Tap Experience a Plus
All ages/skill levels are welcome to audition, no dance experience required.

PREPARATION INFORMATON

Audition Format & Requirements: Auditions are booked in 7-minute increments on June 26.

• You will be asked to do a cold read for all auditions.

• ** All performers are to have 2 songs of a contrasting style (a ballad and an up tempo) in a traditional music theatre genre. Please avoid contemporary musical theatre, operetta, and any material from the show (42nd Street) you are auditioning for.

• ** For each piece, please prepare your best 16-24 measure material of each chosen audition piece. Please provide no more than a 2-bar intro into your section to get you settled into your piece.

• ** All music should be in the correct key and properly marked for the accompanist to read. Pre-recorded accompaniment or self-accompaniment is not permitted, along with no acappella performances please. Tempos may be provided to the accompanist.

• ** Please be prepared to demonstrate vocal range and be redirected at the discretion of the Music Director.

• Everyone auditioning will participate in a dance audition. Tap shoes would be great for the audition, but not necessary to purchase if you don’t already own them. A jazz shoe, character shoe, running shoe (no heavy tread) will be a fine alternate. Please wear comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear.

SYNOPSIS

One of show business’s most classic and beloved tales, 42nd Street tells the story of Peggy Sawyer, a talented young performer with stars in her eyes who gets her big break on Broadway. Peggy arrives in New York City from her hometown of Allentown, Pennsylvania, armed with her tap shoes and big dreams. Peggy’s talent catches the eye of legendary Broadway director Julian Marsh, who gives her a spot in the chorus of Pretty Lady, his newest show. Pretty Lady stars Dorothy Brock, the classic Broadway diva, who takes an instant dislike to the new girl in the cast. When Dorothy is injured during the show’s previews, Pretty Lady looks like it will have to close, unless a new girl talented enough to lead the show can be found — someone like Peggy Sawyer! Peggy’s rise from showgirl to star is the stuff of show business dreams. 42nd Street is full of crowd-pleasing tap dances, popular musical theatre standards, and show-stopping ensemble production numbers.
