PREPARATION

Alumnae Theatre Company is seeking submissions from non-union directors for its production of Circle Mirror Transformation.

When four lost humans enrolled in a six-week-long community-centre drama class begin to experiment with harmless games, hearts are quietly torn apart, and tiny wars of epic proportions are waged and won. A beautifully crafted diorama, a petri dish in which we see, with hilarious detail and clarity, the antic sadness of a motley quintet. Written by Pulitzer Prize winner Annie Baker.

To apply, please email submissions@alumnaetheatre.com and include the following:

  • A resume outlining your theatrical experience
  • Contact information (including email address, phone number, and mailing address)

If selected to pitch, you will receive a full copy of the script(s) in which you expressed interest, guidelines for your written submission, and an invitation to present your pitch in-person at Alumnae Theatre. Pitch presentations will last roughly 20 minutes, including questions from the Director Selection panel.

Pitch presentations will be held at Alumnae Theatre in Toronto (70 Berkeley Street) between May 3rd and 9th, 2025.

Director candidates are welcome to recommend producers or co-producers for their production team. Please note that this is an unpaid, non-union position.

Alumnae welcomes voices from diverse communities, and encourages submissions from equity-seeking groups, including those who identify as Indigenous, Black, People of Colour, Trans, Nonbinary, Queer, Neurodivergent, and intersections of those identities and beyond.

SYNOPSIS
When four lost New Englanders who enroll in Marty’s six-week-long community-center drama class begin to experiment with harmless games, hearts are quietly torn apart, and tiny wars of epic proportions are waged and won. A beautifully crafted diorama, a petri dish in which we see, with hilarious detail and clarity, the antic sadness of a motley quintet.
