PREPARATION

Music

Please prepare TWO songs from Broadway musicals keeping in mind the following:

  • We will only hear one – but prepare both songs thoroughly – you never know!
  • We may cut off the songs
  • We may ask to hear a specific section of the song you’ve chosen
  • If you are auditioning for a female lead, the songs MUST contain high belt notes
  • No songs from Legally Blonde
  • We may ask you to stop mid-song, give you a re-direct, and ask you to continue

The sheet music should be:

  • In the proper key for the pianist
  • Hole punched and placed in a binder
  • Preferably double sided
  • Clearly marked for the accompanist
  • DO NOT tape together sheets of music or bring loose sheets of music

Story

  • Everyone auditioning should prepare a story.
  • Please tell us a story when you’ve had a personal triumph in life!
  • The story must be a maximum of 2.5 minutes.
  • You will be given a warning sign at the 2-minute mark
  • You will be stopped at the 2.5-minute mark

Dance Call

There will be a dance call held halfway through each audition session. You must attend the dance call on the day of your audition so be prepared to come early or stay later depending on the timing of your audition. The dance call timing will be confirmed upon your audition booking.

ALL actors will be part of the dance call during initial auditions regardless of role preference.

Please come prepared with comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes to allow for full body movement (jazz, character or sneakers are best – NO socks/bare feet).

Online Form

Once you book an audition you will be sent a link to our online audition form. As part of the form you will be asked to provide a full list of conflicts. Be as thorough as you can. If you discover changes in your conflict list during the audition process, please inform the producers, or bring an updated list to the audition and/or call backs.

The information provided will be used when creating the rehearsal schedule. Please note it is a lot of work to reschedule a rehearsal because of last minute conflicts. Conflicts added after the time of auditions may result in removal from the show or from numbers in the show.

Performers must be available for ALL performances and technical rehearsals at the theatre. No Exceptions.

Callback Information

Callbacks will be an open and learning experience. We are looking for artists who exhibit the following attributes: talent, skill, discipline and stamina. ALL actors being considered will be called at the beginning of the day and will slowly be dismissed as we cover the material. As per SMT policies, ALL actors who wish to be cast in the production must attend the call-back. Please note - though we will try, we may not be able to accommodate individual timing conflicts for call-backs.

Callbacks will consist of:

Sides: Actors will be given sides for the characters for which they are being considered. These are not to be memorized, but each participant should be familiar with the material.

Music: Actors will be given sheet music for the characters for which they are being considered. The music does not need to be memorized, but participants should be familiar with the material.

Dance: Actors will be asked to perform the dance combination they learned during the audition process. It is encouraged that each participant demonstrates a polished delivery of the material that was taught at the initial audition.

Should you receive a call-back please assume you will need to be there for the entire session. We will provide a schedule for the session. Once you have been released you are welcome to stay to watch the rest of the call-back. It’s always nice for folks to have an audience that isn’t the panel.

Those called back will be asked to prepare specific scenes and musical selections from the show. These will be sent along with callback notifications and will also be available for preview online ahead of time.

Callback material does not need to be memorized but you should be familiar enough with it that you can participate and connect with your scene partners and the panel.

SYNOPSIS

Legally Blonde The Musical is a high-energy, feel-good stage adaptation of the hit film, following the story of Elle Woods, a fashion-savvy sorority girl who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend. Along the way, she challenges stereotypes, discovers her true potential, and proves that you can be both brilliant and unapologetically yourself. Packed with catchy songs, witty humour, and heartwarming moments, the musical celebrates empowerment, self-discovery, and the power of staying true to who you are.
